Besides J.J and myself, who else has explored this offering?
I've done a little with it, but find that it crashes very often, even while running Internet Explorer 7 on simple sites. Also, I have problems with the Laptop keyboard layout. The alternate object navigation commands don't appear to work. Since the troubles could be all mine, I haven't contacted the developers.
For those who haven't yet looked at NVDA, here's the deal:
It's a free, open-source screen reader, written in the language called Python. It is attempting to rely on Windows events such as MSAA calls, rather than on video display hooks and "off-screen models". Phylosofically, it sounds like a reasonable approach. It will be interesting to see how far they can practically take it. Already, there's some talk of the need for per-application code and/or display hooks. Interested parties should go here to check out NVDA; I'd like your impressions.
