[Users] New to mailing list

Hi.
This is the first time I joined a mailing list so I hope this works. Do threads start like this one, and do you reply to it the same way you would a normal e-mail? is there a way to remove the greater signs? I don't want to use the jaws dictinary because i use greater than signs for some things.
That's all I can think about at this odd hour.
