We pay more for assistive technology, for one thing. Whereas most scanning 
programs that tend to work well for us are in the upper hundreds of dollars, 
our sighted counterparts can get them for less than that. That is just an 
example.

And why proprietary software sometimes makes me irritable beyond belief. 
That's probably what the topic is about, and it is a good one that certainly 
bears some considerable thought.

i'm sort of lost. lol exactly what is it that we have to pay more for
than sighted people do? i mean i don't think i've ever walked into a
store where they were having some kind of sighted special where if you
can see you get a 40% discount or something. lol and as far as stuff
like screenreaders and things like that go, if they needed it i'm sure
they'd have to pay just as much as we do.
