hello:
I was looking to find these games and it seems Bavisoft has gone away. Anyone know what's going on with them? I'd really like to play if possible. You can either post or get in touch with me through the info on my profile. Thanks!

I've got Grizzly Gulch, and I thought I had another title...somewhere. AFAIK, these games will only play in windows, and apparently on windows xp only.
Will see if I can dig up any of the ISO's.
If someone could verify death of Bavisoft, I'd be appreciative.
No reason not to post the games if the company is truly dead...

As far as anyone can determine, Bavisoft has ceased selling games or responding to anyone's inquiries. They have not released their games as abandonware so there is no way they can legally be obtained.

Exactly. My advice is don't waste your time. THe games were good for the time they were released but they have almost no replay value and the fact that their performance on newer operating systems is at best extremely sketchy is another reason to avoid them.

I had bavisoft games years ago and they broke down and kept getting stuck after a while. Not because the disks were scratched, mind you, just that they stopped working. I think Bavisoft flunked out, and with good reason. Don't look to obtain their games; they're fun for a time, but not worth it. Useless.

Well, when they came out, they were pretty much the only accessible Windows games. Or, more accurately, when Grizzly Gulch came out, that was the case. Before, there were plenty of text adventures, some DOS games with sound, but Grizzly Gulch really opened up the world of audio gaming. I got that game when I was 10, and I was blown away by it.
Of course things are different now, but for its time, it really was revolutionary. I guess that's why people still ask for it so frequently.
I never got into Chillingham, though. Personally, I just didn't like the story.

I agree with the last poster. I could play grizley gulch for hours and never get bored.

Well, I could back then, anyway. Once you beat it, it doesn't have much replay value, beyond the occasional nostalgia trip. I've said before that I can think of tons of ways that game could have been improved, lots of things that would have given it replay value, and given it something other than the status of mostly forgotten, old and crappy game. Of course, Bavisoft's reputation doesn't help matters in the slightest.

Well, that depends on what kinds of games you're into. I would recommend having a look around audiogames.net if you haven't done that already.

The only real reason to revisit Grizzly after beating it would be to blow all your money at the Salloon

That level does defy all logic. Rather than trying to grab each individual rat as it's running, which would be what one would think would need to be done, you kind of just hold down the arrow that you hear the rat in for a few seconds. Release it, and see if the rats are still in the same location. If they are, keep holding it down, if not, hold down the corresponding arrow depending on where they've gone next. You keep doing that until the lady says something about how you've caught them all. It takes awhile, and I'll admit that the first time, it scared the crap out of me, because it wasn't what I was expecting to happen.
Bryan, even blowing your money in the saloon isn't any fun if you know the cheat to get an unlimited amount of money, which is freely available now, so even that part of the game isn't fun for me, really.

Rats. Hmm. My version got stuck in one of the shooting levels, unfortunately, so I didnn't even have the chance to beat it. Shame.

That's odd. I never had to hold down the arrows when catching the rats. I just had to tap the arrow that corresponded to the direction I heard a rat in.

If you're using a 32 bit version, yes. I don't think it works on 64 bit.

As someone that uses Windows7 64 Bit, I can confirm that Bavisoft games will install and work. I do have Windows7 pro which has a lot of support for 32 bit programs, the only thing I noticed was that, Grizley took a bit for the install wizard to start.

Software that works on Windows 7 generally works on Windows 8.
Do you have a technical reason for making that bet?

No, just hearsay.
Over on the Audiogames forum, people have been saying that they've had trouble getting these games to work since 64 bit Windows came out. I'm really not sure why some people have problems and others don't.

I think it depends on weather or not the OS has support for 32 bit programs. When I ordered my new computer they asked me if I wanted Windows7 pro which offers such support. Even with the support you have to sometimes run the program as an Adminastrater, or trouble shoot compatabilaty. I had to take extra steps at times but gotthe games to work.

From what I understand, Windows 8 doesn't ship with the Visual Basic and some other libraries that were present on Windows 7, which is why not only these particular games, but some others, are causing problems. It's possible to get these dependencies, of course, but most people don't know how to find them, and complain that they don't work.
But for some reason the Bavisoft games seem to be a special case. I don't know what dependencies they use, or where to get them. I don't plan to upgrade to Windows 8 at all; I prefer to see what 9, or whatever Microsoft will decide to call it, has in store before I even think about that. For now I'm content with 7, and the fact that I don't have to do a whole bunch of messing around to make all my games work.

Yeah Microsoft should make a vertion of windows where you can make the lay out any windows vertion you want. Even my cousin who is sighted said Windows8 sucks because it was made for touch screens, it was made with no consideration for people that use keyboards. Want irony about a third of the world used Windows XP when Microsoft decided to drop support for it.
